Embroidery

In Marrakech's bustling Medina, an embroidery workshop on handmade baskets is an immersive experience that introduces visitors to traditional craftsmanship alongside local artisans.

Organized by the Riad, this workshop takes place in a warm and welcoming space, often a light-filled courtyard or a room decorated in Moroccan style. As soon as they arrive, participants are welcomed with mint tea, an introduction to embroidery techniques and a presentation of the materials used: doum or wicker baskets, colorful threads, and sometimes pearls or sequins to embellish the designs.

Under the benevolent guidance of Medina artisans, participants learn to personalize their baskets by tracing traditional or contemporary motifs. Local embroiderers, experts in the art of chain stitch and throw stitch, share their tips and tell the story of their craft, handed down from generation to generation.

Between cultural exchanges and meticulous gestures, each person leaves with his or her own embroidered basket, a unique souvenir of Marrakech. This workshop, both convivial and authentic, is a great way to discover Moroccan craftsmanship while supporting local artisans.
